Being a smart arse and a ironic curmudgeon about spelling (the irony is that I am a very, very poor speller) I think that the term is ; 'Up shit crEEk without a paddle' (as opposed to crEAk) - but of course this doesn't apply here because although one paddle is broken there is a perfectly good paddle on the other end, which if you use correctly would work silently without any creaking at all. :> )
Well, if the water in the photograph of the broken paddle is Thames water that is good news indeed - it looks almost clear and fresh enough to drink!
Spelling is interesting - I think the very first dictionary of English words was an arbitrary affair where the author just plucked the spelling of words out of thin air - if he had stopped and thought a moment he might have thought about making the spellings a bit more phonetic and easier to spell.
And I can see by your last comment that you haven't had that cup of coffee as you spelt creek as creak again - come on, coffees not that bloody expensive, and you don't need a cup of that expensive stuff from a cafe - whats wrong with a cup of good old Greggs Instant Coffee out of a jar!!
By the way the yacht in the photograph in your Blog Heading - what is the Rock / Island that it is heading towards - surely not Fastnet Rock in the Irish Sea?

Doh! I needed a cup of coffee when I wrote that.
It's worth pointing out that the paddle was actually in the Thames not a creak .... and the water was for once looking rather clear.

Yup, the Fastnet, taken back in 2005 (golly, 10 years ago this summer)
