Supermoon brings super tides

You can't ignore the tides if you live near the Thames, particularly along parts of the Thames path such as that part along Putney Embankment. At high tide this can flood, especially during the high tide after a supermoon, such as the one we had yesterday.

It's all to easy to get stuck and risk wet feet (as shown above) or even a wet car engine:

At least this one wasn't in danger of floating away like the BMW in this post!

Forgot to check the tide times for this morning's 3:30 AM cycle commute, and came face to face to a very wet Chiswick Mall this morning. Luckily the tide wasn't overlapping the pavement, and I was able to use the pavement to get onto Chiswick Lane South and up around the brewery.

That's a very early cycle commute!

As well as being caught out at Putney Embankment, I've also had problems on the Thames path heading up river, in particular at Mortlake.

It is an early commute, but I've been doing it for over a year now, so it's a bit commonplace now.

I've had to divert runs and walks a few times due to the flooding on the south-side of the Thames in Barnes and Mortlake (or the "Surrey Side" as we call it over here in Hammersmith (or the "Middlesex side")). I have also watched a few folks cycle / walk along the path downstream of Hammersmith Bridge in knee deep water - one memorable one on New Year's Day a few years ago while I nursed a hangover and watched people trudge through deep water on the Thames Path in Barnes taking their "New Year's Day constitutional."

Really like that launch in the top picture - I'm sure I've seen it in the deep distant past, was it perhaps a Thames Conservancy boat?

Maybe during the Boat Race? It tends to follow in the wake of the rowers
