Natural Navigation Picture Puzzle

This photo was taken at noon on alongside one of the canals in east London.

Can you work out which?

Is it the River Lee Navigation?

It does run roughly north-south and does pass by a golf course.

Close by but not actually the Lee (or navigation) though I have a post about the Lee already to go....

Is it the Regents Canal somewhere near the Green Bridge in Milie End Road? It does run roughly North/South there - and I'm sure that is not a golf ball!

Correct - its the Grand Union which turns into Regents Canal and its just about near the Mile End Road (which I remember walking under). The nearest bridge is the wonderfully named Gunmakers Arms Bridge:

It was on a walk I'm just about to blog about.

That round thing looks like a bollard, so it must be close to a lock...perhaps the lock on the Regent's Canal at Mile End?
