Well here's another example, currently moored up on Putney Embankment. The Girl Irene is is severe need of some TLC and is covered with posters asking the owner to contact the authorities.
Maybe one reason the owner hasn't is that the notice also warns that the ship has been leaking oil and there are fines to pay.

According to Steve the War gamer it's to prevent anyone from wanting to steal her!!! maybe the strategy didn't work.

Of course I'm assuming that Girl Irene was claimed by her owner, but you never know. Pirates on the Thames sounds much more interesting!
