Baydog: that reminds me of the puzzle my nephews and nieces enjoyed telling me:

Adam and Eve and Pinch-me went down to the sea to bathe;
Adam and Eve were drowned, so who do you think was saved?

Alas it was beyond me, so I had to ask them what the answer was, but they seemed reluctant to do that :(

O'Docker: fortunately it was dark

I remember my mum telling me this, with dark and menacing undertones!

Her version went;
It was on a dark and stormy night
The rain came down in torrents
So I said to my mate - Tell me a tale
And the tale went on as follows..
It was on a dark and stormy night. ....
